A wonderful photo of children gathered outside the village school – probably in the late 1890s or early 1900s, judging by their dress. The boys are all gathered in the foreground, one with his hoop (a popular Victorian toy), with the girls grouped further down the pavement, beside the other school gates.

It’s just possible to see a couple of adults in the doorway (maybe the head and a fellow teacher?). They all seem to be in their Sunday-best, so perhaps it was to celebrate a special occasion, or a visit by some dignatory.

If anyone can add any information – or even names of any of the children – please leave a comment below. (Click on the image to see it in full frame.)
