For anyone who’s not sure where the station was: Station Road is a lane on the left, towards Grantham, about a mile outside the village. At the bottom of the road is the old railway bridge. The station was on the left – and is now a house with dog kennels.
Beyond what Richard tells us, I don’t know much about the history of the railway station. But I understand that it was much used by both royalty and aristocracy coming to the area to hunt. And I think Edward VII took advantage of Wallis Simpson whilst parked in the sidings! But although it’s a great story, I’m happy to be corrected if anyone knows any different.
I also don’t have any information about these photographs. Richard says the station closed in May 1964. Judging by the men’s dress, I’d guess they would have been taken around that time. Perhaps even on the last day? (You can scroll though the photos by clicking on the larger one above, and then the arrows which appear on the sides.)

Interesting to see everyone wandering around on the tracks, with a total disregard for our beloved “Health & Safety” and ‘risk assessments’! – such things were 20 years ahead, according to George Orwell!
