I copied this photo from a print hanging in the Marquis of Granby. I don’t know if it’s a Waltham house, but I’m assuming it must be.
It certainly makes a very picturesque scene – with the cat standing guard by the door, and the hen scratching for grubs under the ancient, shutter-boarded window.
Judging by the brick work and wooden beams, it must have been very old – possibly medieval or Tudor – even when this photo was taken – probably some time in the early 1900s.
Maybe someone will recognise the porch on the left – if it survives. If anyone can provide any more information, please leave a comment below, or send a message via the contact page.
