Johnnie Johnson

Although not born in Waltham, WWII RAF fighter-ace Johnnie Johnson is undoubtedly Waltham’s most famous son. He lived in the village police house during his father’s tenure as police sergeant. And it was in the fields around Waltham that he learned to shoot. A skill that made him Britain’s leading WWII fighter pilot with 38 kills to his credit.
